Macular degeneration is a condition in which the central area of the retina gradually deteriorates, often making it difficult to see objects that are far away. People with macular degeneration may notice blurred vision, distorted or misshapen objects and decreased ability to read fine print. 

Now that you understand what is macular degeneration, it would be good to know if there are types of food you can eat to help slow down its progress and keep your eyes healthy. Well the good news is that there are certain foods that fit the bill, and we’ll tackle some of them in this article.

Many people with macular degeneration have noticed that their vision is clearer after eating certain foods. Vitamin A, found in fish and leafy green vegetables like spinach and kale, helps keep the retina healthy. It also enhances your ability to see at dusk and night time when it’s harder for the eyesight to adjust.

Eating blueberries can protect you from developing cataracts by blocking UV rays from entering the eye which damage them over time—ultimately leading to loss of sight in some cases! Eggs contain a type of fat called DHA, which may help prevent age-related blindness by reducing inflammation in the body as well as protein lutein, another nutrient known for protecting against dry macular degeneration. 

Lastly, coffee contains caffeine, which has been shown to help preserve vision in people with the disease.
