A single LED channel could be implemented in many different shapes and sizes. Luckily, there are a variety of options when it comes to LED strip channels, allowing you to choose the optimal LED light fixture profile for your specific needs.
Here, we explain the many channel options for LED strips and which ones work best in which situations.
Combining channel height with light density
The height of the LED strip channel and the LED density of LED strips are important considerations if improved light diffusion is needed. When the channel is elevated, light is dispersed more evenly. Similarly, a greater number of LEDs means more evenly dispersed illumination.
Which LED strip channel is suitable for the strip light project is determined by a combination of the two elements.
Considering the inner width of the channel
The relationship between the LED density of a waterproof LED strip light and the height of the LED strip channel is the same as that of a non-waterproof LED strip light. The width of the waterproof LED strip is something to keep in mind.
Due to the waterproof coating on the outside, it is typically 2mm wider than its non-waterproof version. Be sure the LED strip channel’s inner width exceeds the width of the waterproof LED strips by carefully reading the instructions.
Considering solderless connectors
Soldering is the ideal connection method because it does not increase the width of LED strip lights. Most solderless LED strip connectors, however, are wider than the LED strips.
If you need to arrange the strip connectors inside the LED strip channel, the inner width of the LED strip channel is determined by the width of the LED connectors, not the width of the LED strip. As a result, if you want to use small or slim LED channels, please use slim connectors for LED strips.
Consider what you will use the channel for
Choose the medium or large aluminium channel for general illumination or task lighting. Large and medium-sized profiles feature a larger light-emitting surface and may accommodate one or more light strips side by side, resulting in greater brightness.
Kitchen cabinet lighting is typically made up of small LED channels, as are under counter and kitchen island lighting. Choose medium or large channels for ceiling LED strip lighting. Stair steps are usually tiny in size.
Consider whether you need additional accessories
Buying extra accessories is something to think about at times.
End caps and mounting hardware are included with LED strip channels. Depending on the type of aluminium channel, you can secure accessories in place using a variety of methods, including mounting brackets, spring buckles, pedant wires, double-sided tape, screws, or glue. Pick mounting hardware that corresponds with your preferred method of attachment.
Ensure you have enough mounting hardware and end caps. Splitting an LED channel into multiple segments could require the purchase of additional end caps and mounting attachments like brackets and spring buckles.
