You can get help from the Division of Data Innovation (DoIT) Support Work area With Joining with equipment diagnosis and remedy recommendations. The next step depends on whether the PC or device is owned by the college or a client.
Is it a Dell or an Apple gadget owned by the university?
Our local partners for equipment fix services, Graphite (Mac) or Vanguard PCs (Dell), will complete repairs on equipment owned by the college. DoIT can handle the maintenance interaction in the background, and Graphite or Vanguard will get in touch with you for the final installment and fix updates. DoIT is currently unable to work with fixes for manufacturers other than Apple or Dell.
For such services, the Walk In Help Work location (at 1210 W. Dayton Road) serves as a drop-off and pick-up location. During business hours, we actually offer free pick-up and delivery of hardware from campus buildings. By completing our Departmental Fix Administration Solicitation Structure, this assistance might be indicated.
Is it a private gadget?
While we are currently unable to do equipment repairs on specifically identified devices, we are happy to provide best effort research and advice for free. After that, you can take your device to a preferred repair shop. Also, we can start you off with a list of PC fix vendors if you don’t know where to go for repairs.
Available for walk-in and online consultations
1210 West is where the Walk In Help workspace is located. Dayton Road is currently open from 7:45 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and no reservations are required. Call the Assist Work area using phone line at 608.264.4357 or send an email to request a virtual meeting with a Stroll In Help Work area specialist.
What about personal device software support?
The Help Desk does not provide equipment or repair support for specific computers or gadgets, but we do support UW- Madison approved IT services and programmes on these devices.
For instance, we’ll support installing the Team multifaceted confirmation on a privately owned phone. Nevertheless, the Help Work area does not support installing applications that are not approved by UW- Madison (such as WhatsApp) or updating the operating system to the most recent version.
A little history
The previous DoIT Tech Shop closed in 2019, changing how we provide assistance desk and repair services. The conclusion followed a task appraisal by a cross-grounds work group and warning group composed of DoIT staff and grounds partners. The groups were tasked with determining how we can best assist the surrounding community while using our resources as efficiently as possible.
The committees determined that the old strategy wasn’t workable in light of the severe retail innovation climate and that the college would be best served by a restructuring of our administrations.
