Dental students are trapped in a tight spot. For instance, you have a lot of college and dental school debt, and you need to make money; what options do you have? You can decide to establish your own practice and help patients as much as you can, or you get a steady paycheck so you can join a corporate organization. Many people are joining corporate groups because they don’t want to take any additional risks or incur any extra debt.

How did an idea develop into a product?

Well, I worked for a larger firm that had several different practices. In terms of insurance claims and negotiating prices, I observed firsthand the benefits of having more volume and many clinics under one backend. I watched how claims, inventories, and supplies were handled and how much cheaper they were due to increased size and the ability to pool resources. It became more profitable as I added more clinics.

Also, I realized that student debt is a significant problem right nowadays, with many dental students graduating with debts of more than half a million dollars. When you combine these two factors, you’ll find that healthcare consolidation organizations are only getting stronger, and student debt is only constantly expanding.

Dentists are obliged to work for these larger organizations after graduating from school. Having a private practice should always be an option. Relationships between doctors and patients should be peculiar and distinct, not objective. I reasoned that a program could be built to take everything that big firms have an edge over and make it available to everyone.

From Startups To Major Players: Dental Startups Are Becoming More And More Popular. What Do You Think Is Missing From The Field?

Local healthcare is usually the best; that is something I genuinely believe. It’s not something that a global firm would be good at. Private practices that know their patients offer the best offices and provide the highest quality care. When healthcare becomes too large, those relationships are lost. I’m creating a technology that any doctor can use to purchase, sell, or start a practice and treat a community of patients. That practice might portray an excellent modern Smile Direct Club.

However, it might take on any appearance or style. It is up to the dentist to decide how they wish to sell and brand their practice. Ultimately, our technology will enable them to do so, allowing them to operate in a more insurance-driven, highly centralized environment.

Private practices cannot currently compete with larger enterprises or insurance firms. I believe it is similar to how Substack assists writers in becoming their own publishers. They’re in charge of their own media outlets. Because there are so many parameters and variables to review, those instruments are obviously significantly more complex in the health care system. However, that’s what I’m striving to achieve.
